The Daikin CMXV12AVJUA is a 1-ton (12,000 BTU) multi-position air handler built for flexible ducted split system installations where installation orientation, efficiency, and smart thermostat compatibility are priorities. Part of Daikin's CMXV series — available in 12K, 18K, and 24K capacities — this air handler is engineered for residential applications requiring precise airflow management, durable construction, and seamless integration with Daikin's smart home ecosystem.

Multi-Position Installation Flexibility

The CMXV12AVJUA supports multiple installation orientations to accommodate a wide range of mechanical room configurations and duct layouts. Up-flow and horizontal left orientations are supported without any additional kit. Down-flow and horizontal right configurations are available with the separately purchased Downflow Kit (DFKE-02), making this unit adaptable to attic, closet, basement, and crawl space installations.

ECM Variable-Speed Blower Motor

The electronically commutated motor (ECM) blower delivers variable-speed airflow that maintains constant CFM across a wide range of static pressure conditions independent of duct system variations. Unlike PSC motors that lose airflow efficiency as static pressure increases, the ECM automatically compensates — ensuring consistent air delivery even in duct systems with higher resistance. This translates to better comfort, quieter operation, improved dehumidification performance, and reduced blower energy consumption compared to fixed-speed alternatives.

All-Aluminum Evaporator Coil

The evaporator coil is constructed entirely of aluminum, eliminating the galvanic corrosion risk associated with copper-aluminum coil combinations in high-humidity environments. All-aluminum coil construction improves long-term durability and reduces the risk of formicary corrosion that can develop on copper coils exposed to certain volatile organic compounds common in indoor air.

Daikin ONE Smart Thermostat Required

The CMXV12AVJUA is designed exclusively for use with Daikin's smart thermostat platform. It is compatible with the Daikin ONE+ (DTST-CWBSA) and Daikin ONE Touch (DTST-TOU-A) smart thermostats — both sold separately and must be purchased to complete the system. The unit will not operate with third-party or conventional thermostats. Smart thermostat software version 3.9 or newer is required for compatibility. This dedicated integration enables full system communication between the air handler and thermostat for optimized variable-speed operation and efficiency.

Electric Heat Kit Options

Heater kits are available in 3, 5, 8, and 10kW capacities for applications requiring supplemental or primary electric heat, making the CMXV12AVJUA suitable for all-electric installations in mild to moderate heating climates.

Installation Notes

CMXV12 installations require a 3/8-inch reducer to reduce the 1/2-inch suction line — contractors should have this fitting on hand prior to installation. A wired thermostat connection is required; wireless-only configurations are not supported.
